WEEQUAHIC HIGH SCHOOL TO HOST NEWARK LANDMARKS ANNUAL MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2024, 4-6 PM.
Through the determined efforts of Newark Landmarks, the Weequahic High School building is now listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Constructed in 1932 and designed by Guilbert & Betelle, the high school is a superb example of Art Deco architecture. Moreover, adorning the walls of the high school’s lobby are the historic WPA-era murals, "The Enlightenment of Man," painted by Michael Lenson in 1939. Weequahic is the third Newark school to receive such a designation. On Wednesday, October 23rd, Newark Landmarks will be having their Annual Meeting Iin the high school's Art Deco-style Auditorium to celebrating this milestone. See flyer below for more information.
